Hey everybody! It’s me, Karena Garrity, your host of the The Haddams-Killingworth Daily. Here’s all the local news you need to know right now.

First, today’s weather:

Mostly sunny. High: 85 Low: 68.

Here are the top stories in The Haddams-Killingworth today:

  1. Congratulations to Nicole Ringuette of Moodus, one of this year’s recipients of the Alexandra Dilger Award, given by the Deep River-based nonprofit A Little Compassion (ALC). This award is given to young, neurodiverse people who are working towards their life goals both personal and professional. According to a Zip06 article, “Ringuette is looking to become a special education teacher, with the goal to “help my students believe in themselves and know that there is someone who believes in them.” Ringuette has dyslexia, and receives specialized personal tutoring in helping her in completing assignments and with time management. In hopes to earn her master’s degrees at the University of St. Joseph in West Hartford, ALC will be paying for a semester’s worth of tutoring to assist her in realizing her vocation.” (zip06)
  2. According to a Facebook post from Senator Norm Needleman, “Over $6.6 million in state funding has been approved for several projects across our towns! These tremendous funds will support local infrastructure needs, enhance public safety + emergency response, grow recreational opportunities, and much more ! In Haddam, $760,000 will go to create an intergenerational playground and replace the roof of the former Haddam Elementary School and to create Higganum Cove Park on a site previously remediated for contamination, providing more resources for town residents to utilize – the former Haddam Elementary School will become a community center upon the completion of this and other work.” (Senator Norm Needleman via Facebook)
  3. According to a CT Examiner article, “A proposed 200+ bedroom housing development on Hatchetts Hill Road (in Old Lyme) that was stymied for two years by the lack of a sewer hookup will move forward because the property owner has purchased additional land suitable for a septic system.“It’s definitely a go,” said Mark Diebolt, who owns the 20.6-acre parcel at 49 Hatchetts Hill Road where he proposed a housing development in 2020 under state statute 8-30g. The new plan will likely include 30 percent affordable units to qualify under the law.” (CT Examiner)

The album is available wherever you like to stream or download your music. But you’ve been warned - these songs might be stuck in your head “Foreverrrrrrrr”!” (Goodspeed Musicals via Facebook)
  • Hope Alliance, Inc.: “Hello! Thank you everyone for your patience! We are once again accepting bottles and cans! This week I returned 4,620 of them!! That is $231.00 to put toward our expenses here at the rescue! This is the most ever for a one- week period!” (Hope Alliance, Inc. via Facebook)
  • Higganum United Methodist Church: “It was a beautiful week to have VBS….. We would like to thank everyone involved, as we all had a great time and many happy campers.
