10 Pokémon We Wish Could Speak Human Language

While there is evidence throughout the Pokémon anime that the Creatures can understand human speech, only a relative handful of them can actually speak the language. Many Pokémon have communicated with humans through telepathy or through someone else’s perspective or imagination. And Meowth painstakingly learned how to speak human language, showing it is possible for a Pokémon to do so.

Most Pokémon communicate by saying the name of their own species. While this demonstrates the ability to form human-like sounds, their vocabulary is restricted to this one utterance. A world where Pokémon could speak human language would dramatically change the dynamic between Pokémon and people, but it is nevertheless interesting to imagine.

10/10 Wobbuffet’s Tail Hides A Secret That It Could Reveal

Wobbuffet saluting in the Pokémon anime.

One reason fans would like to hear Wobbuffet speak human language would be to put to bed the fan theory that its tail is its actual body, not the big blue one with the Silly face. That’s assuming it would actually clarify this, of course.

Wobbuffet’s Pokédex states that it desperately tries to keep its tail hidden, which is proof that it’s hiding a secret. The question of just what that secret is would be the first thing on viewers’ lips. Perhaps the tail is completely different from the whacky persona put forth by the Patient Pokémon, and they don’t want anyone to know.

9/10 It Would Be Fascinating To Hear What Magikarp Sounded Like

Magikarp lying on the ground with its mouth open in the Pokémon anime.

Besides asking why all it does is splash around, it’s fun just to imagine what kind of voice Magikarp would have. Maybe it would have a very suave, sophisticated-sounding voice and speak intelligently on a number of topics. Or else its voice would be just as silly as it looks. Fans could ask Magikarp what it thinks about each day and why it can only use one move.

Several of Magikarp’s Pokédex entries say that the Fish Pokémon is the weakest and most pathetic in the world, so viewers could ask how it feels about that. At the very least, fans would find out if Magikarp has any redeeming qualities whatever that his inability to speak has kept hidden.

8/10 The Alolan Dugtrio Triplets Could Talk Between Themselves

Alolan Diglett and Alolan Dugtrio in Pokemon.

The blonde wig-wearing Alolan Dugtrio has a strong look. It would be interesting to hear the Pokémon speak to see how their words match their hair. While the regular Dugtrio triplets look the same, their Alolan Counterparts wear wigs of differing styles, indicating that each triplet has its own personality.

While the three heads cooperate in terms of movement, it would be amusing to watch the three of them talk among themselves about what to eat for lunch or why one triplet’s hair is better than the others’.

7/10 Milotic Would Have A Soothing Voice

Milotic from Pokémon.

The way Milotic glides effortlessly across the water makes it easy to imagine it having a delightfully calm and soothing voice. The sound it makes in the anime is Serene and whale-like, so its speaking voice might be the kind of thing to fall asleep to.

Since Milotic is said to be the most beautiful Pokémon in existence, fans would like nothing more than to sit, look at, and listen to the Tender Pokémon as its calming voice soothes them to sleep. It doesn’t even matter what they’d be saying.

6/10 We Could Get To Know The Real Ditto

Ditto from Pokémon.

Given Ditto’s ability to Transform into whatever it sees, technically, it can speak if it impersonates a Pokémon that can do so, such as Meowth. In fact, it did just that in the Episode “Ditto’s Mysterious Mansion.”

But regular Ditto can’t talk, so it would be interesting to hear what it has to say, displaying its own Personality rather than that of another Pokémon. It could tell us what it’s like turning into other Pokémon or which one is the most fun to Transform into.

5/10 Alakazam Would Be A Stimulating Conversationalist

Alakazam from Pokémon holding spoons and staring.

Alakazam has an IQ of 5,000, so it’s a shame that its intelligence can’t be shared through human language. The Psi Pokémon would make a Fantastic dinner guest, and the conversation is sure to be stimulating and thought-provoking. It would be fascinating to hear his thoughts on Pokémon, humans, and the world.

Alakazam’s Pokédexstates that its brain cells multiply continuously until it dies, allowing it to remember everything, which would make picking its brain a treat. Fans could also ask what the deal is with the spoons he clutches in each hand.

4/10 There Are So Many Questions We Could Ask Mimikyu

Jesse's Mimikyu in Pokémon.

Mimikyu makes strange, staccato sounds in the anime, so it would be interesting to hear what its voice sounded like. Even if the Ghost and Fairy type is unwilling to show fans what it looks like beneath its creepy Pikachu disguise, it could at least describe it.

It’s said that a Scholar once met his end looking beneath Mimikyu’s rag, so it would be a lot Safer to learn about it by asking questions. There are so many things viewers could ask the Disguise Pokémon: how it made its costume, why it so violently resists having its true identity exposed, or just what happened to the Pokémon to make it so peculiar.

3/10 Mew Could Reveal The Mystery Of Its Origin

Mew floating above a forest in Pokémon.

Mewtwo, the Clone of Mew, can speak human language, but Mew himself can’t. The Mythical Pokémon is perhaps the most mysterious of all and is said to be the ancestor of all Pokémon because its DNA contains the Genetic codes of every single one.

Being able to speak human language would put an end to the chicken-and-egg mystery of who came first, Mew or Arceus. Mew is the genetic blueprint for all Pokémon, which must include Arceus, but Arceus created all Pokémon, with Mew being the first of its creations.

2/10 A Talking Psyduck Would Be A Captivating Curiosity

Psyduck holding his head in Pokémon.

Misty can’t be the only one to wonder what’s going on in the mind of Psyduck. The Cerulean City native would often get frustrated with the Duck Pokémon and probably wished she could talk with it instead of just watching it run around aimlessly.

According to Psyduck’s Pokédex, it doesn’t remember using its powers and, therefore, always looks confused. It’s anybody’s guess what Psyduck would say if it were able to speak human language, but a lot of people would be curious to find out.

1/10 Unown Could Tell Us What They Are & Where They Came From

Unown in the Unown dimension in Pokémon.

There’s only one thing fans would want to ask Unown if it/they were to be able to respond, and that is: “What are you?“Having existed since ancient times, it’s up for debate whether the Symbol Pokémon existed before language.

They are like a living alphabet, so it would be intriguing to hear them speak and see what they say about the universe and themselves. The species lives in its own dimension, so viewers would be fascinated to hear them tell them about what it’s like there.
