10 fire engines called to huge fire at business park
Fire crews from across the region are tackling a blaze at a business park in Heysham.
Lancashire Fire and Rescue said on arrival earlier today (Saturday September 3) they had found a large number of wooden pallets on fire. The fire soon spread to adjacent wasteland off Gas Field Road in Heysham near Morcambe.
The Fire and Rescue drone team were also in attendance and people have been urged to stay clear of the area.
A Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: “10 fire engines from Lancaster, Morecambe, Fulwood, Silverdale, Preston, Blackpool, Blackburn, Bamber Bridge, Fleetwood and support from Cumbria Fire and Rescue Service, as well as the drone team and the Stinger , were mobilized to an incident on Gas Field Road in Heysham.
“On arrival, crews found a large number of wooden pallets to be well alight, which had also spread to adjacent wasteland, including shrubbery and woodlands.
“Firefighters are currently using jets and the Stinger to bring the fire under control and are still in attendance.
“This incident is giving off a large smoke plume, so if you can see or smell smoke, close your windows and doors.
“We kindly ask that you avoid the area as crews deal with this incident.”
